Lisa Levine received her B.F.A. in photography from the School
of Visual Arts in NYC in 1978. She went on to earn an
M.F.A. from the City University of
New York at Brooklyn College in 1981. She is currently
teaching Photography at California
State University, Hayward.
Lisa has been the recipient of a grant for the last 5 years
for her Small Stories project. This educational
project involves 6th grade students and senior citizens and
incorporates oral history and photographic portraiture. She
feels strongly about this project, in part, because it puts
photography into the hands of non-photographers. This helps
both the children and seniors in establishing an understanding
of an important and highly prevalent visual language.
